I can't understand how it works. Is it a forum?

It's... kinda forumish. Basically, it functions like communities on diary (and there are "personal" "diaries" too but they're much less used). There is an address like reddit/cats and that's a community about cats. You get the account, you go to r/cats, click "create new post" button and write/attach some shit there. Bam, your post is now on the main page of r/cats and everyone subscribed to it can see it in their dashboard. Or everyone who browses r/cats.

There is also a thing called karma, it's basically likes or dislikes, people can upvote or downvote other people's posts and comments. There are a few ways of sorting content - by upvotes (from most popular to least popular), by date, by "hotness" (when about the same amount of people upvotes and downvotes and does it actively, it means it's about something controversial usually). So you accumulate karma when posting and commenting. It does nothing except inflates your ego and sometimes allows you to post in a subreddit with spam defense if your account is new.

And that's it. You subscribe to some interesting communities (subreddits) and then post and comment there and farm your karma. Happy farming.

Somewhat. You can post and comment on various subreddits and up/downvote posts and comments. Posts sink and get archived but don't disappear. That's all there is to it, really. Lurk moar and you'll get the hang of it eventually.

I distinctly remember discovering ao3 and devouring English fics like crazy in high school, bumping up my vocabulary tremendously. We someties played Scrabble in my English classes and I usually won every time thinking oh how smart I was and oh how educated through unconventional ways. Surprise, motherfucker, you just had an unhealthy obsession and a superiority complex.

Nope. There is such a thing as orthorexia, for example, and it's definitely not healthy (it's an obsession with eating only healthy food etc).
