Re: [Английский] Flooding in English on Kholivorka (with some readings)

You know, I'm a bit confused now. So the show relaunch at 2005 start with Ninth Doctor story? And would the stories of 1st-8th Doctors be told later? Or first 8 Doctors' stories where mentioned at the old episodes only and I will learn only about 9th-13th (if I remember those fandom news right) Doctors?

Yes, you got it right, the story of the first eight Doctors is told in the old episodes and the relaunched show starts with the Ninth. So basically yes, the new show is about 9th-13th Doctors, yet occasional references to the previous Doctors happen here and there in the show (nothing crucial to understanding, though). Or, for example, in the episode celebrating 50 years of the show, different versions of the Doctor meet each other (it's a bit tricky to explain how).

Yeah, I had seen both of those films!
At the Jupiter Ascending I didn't really understand his characters' person. He does not have any story, and we don't know what he likes and dislikes, personal life - they just mentioned some facts at the film and then he behaved like a scenario's puppet, because the film - let me not to be polite about this - was awful. I don't know if I can use word "cardboard" here, I don't know a special English word for this kind of stories, but I dislike it really, really strong.

I couldn't agree more. For me, the Jupiter movie is more about aesthetics and way less about plot, character motivation etc. I enjoyed seeing Eddie play a dark-ish character, and I also very much enjoyed the costume design and the whole space opera setting. Some movies are just not meant to be deep and meaningful - but if they appeal to me in some way, I'll like them no matter how little sense the plot makes.
And yes, you can definitely say "a cardboard character" and, perhaps, "a shallow story/plot".

What about "The Danish Girl" - hmm, I'm sure, he totally looks shy at any episode we see him. And I'm not good at that period of time 's characteristics but he didn't look like non-conformist at the scenes with other people - they never react at his words or behavior with shock, I, if I remember right, even have some jokes about him being so good, so I think that he is a brought-up right boy there too.

I watched the movie just as it came out and never cared to re-watch, so I don't exactly remember the details, but for me the whole transgender thing was controversial enough so it made this Eddie's role stand out for me in some way.

And, of course, probably the biggest project Eddie is taking part in - I'm talking about Fantastic Beasts. Have you seen the movies? How do you feel about them?

I just thought, does those films about real people, who lived at the same time with us or just a little bit before, have the fandom too? And found some fanfiction about "The Danish Girl"! I guess this topic need some readings again.

You can definitely try looking for it on ao3, I have found weirdest things there before.

Readings are fun! Are you good at such thing?
I guess I myself am not witty enough to make it entertaining, but I certainly enjoy reading... umm our readings.

And thanks a lot for such a detailed explanations! I guess I gonna start with relaunched version, as you recommended  :friends:

Oh, I didn't have the chance to see that movie on a big screen or in a good quality and it is hard to me to speak about aesthetics about this one - I just didn't have the chance to see all the details. But the scenes with marriage and last fight was impressive even in the version I have seen it.

What about aesthetic film, by the way: I could not miss a chance to mention Cold War(Zimna wojna, 2018). This film impressed me by the slow beauty of episodes, minimalist and detailed picture at the same moment, and impressive look of black-and-white film. That's actually one of very little number of films in which I like the picture itself, not just the possibility to easy imagine the heroes and the places where story happens. And the story! And the sounding of traditional music, jazz, mix of traditional music and jazz!

Returning to Eddie dark-ish side, there are some rumors that he gonna play a serial murderer in one of future films, so we could see more.

I watched the movie just as it came out and never cared to re-watch, so I don't exactly remember the details, but for me the whole transgender thing was controversial enough so it made this Eddie's role stand out for me in some way.

As I already mentioned, I started with "Savage Grace", so this film didn't shocked me, but touched a lot. I love its "Courage to be yourself" motto.

And, of course, probably the biggest project Eddie is taking part in - I'm talking about Fantastic Beasts. Have you seen the movies? How do you feel about them?

Oh, yeah! I had seen them and re-watched them some times.
The plot itself is not genius, and the whole story seems to be made up of cliches for me, but it does not makes it bad. Not a masterpiece, but the way they told the idea to us is pretty good (can be way better at second film, btw). I can describe the special effects in the same way - very good, but not a masterpiece. There is always something not enough a little bit. And those movies started a lot of discussions around - so I'm sure that it cannot be bad, as there are so much people happen to see so different ideas in it. What about Eddie's role, it is still shy boy from a good family, but now he has a courage to be himself, and he is into social life even when they try to show how different he is, people still able pretty easy to contact with him and he can easily connect the people, and it does not matter how funny he seems at some moments. Eddie is really good at the stories about some, how to explain my impressions, broken people. About someone having some kind of inner conflict, problem that makes him suffer deep at his soul and poisons his life. It's pretty nice to see him smiling a lot at the screen finally.

You can definitely try looking for it on ao3, I have found weirdest things there before.

I found some there. Mostly crossovers and didn't noticed any maxi fic.

Actually, no, I tried once, but it was not good at all. But I guess just the retellings would be funny, as the ideas are always mind-blowing. And cute.

Re: [Английский] Flooding in English on Kholivorka (with some readings)

Happy New Year, anon!
Hope you had a lovely celebration  :newyear:

What about aesthetic film, by the way: I could not miss a chance to mention Cold War(Zimna wojna, 2018). This film impressed me by the slow beauty of episodes, minimalist and detailed picture at the same moment, and impressive look of black-and-white film. That's actually one of very little number of films in which I like the picture itself, not just the possibility to easy imagine the heroes and the places where story happens. And the story! And the sounding of traditional music, jazz, mix of traditional music and jazz!

First I got a bit confused as I looked it up and found a French movie called "Cold war" which came out in 2017 (close enough, I thought, it has to be the one), but then I realized it's quite literally a movie about war and that didn't really match with jazz music you mentioned and then I looked more and finally found the movie you were talking about. Wow, thank you for bringing it up! I'm not a huge fan of love stories, but this one (I've watched its trailer) is definitely promising. I also liked that it was made black-and-white, the sparing use of colours in modern movies usually creates a very interesting effect (think of Schindler's List, where the little girl's red coat is shockingly bright comparing to the rest of the movie and how that draws attention to the scene).

Returning to Eddie dark-ish side, there are some rumors that he gonna play a serial murderer in one of future films, so we could see more.

I actually haven't heard about it. Are you talking about "The good nurse" movie? That would be definitely interesting to see.
While looking for this one, I did a bit of a research and found out that Eddie is taking part in an adventure biopic called "The Aeronauts" which will be released in the end of the current year. Yay, something to look forward to :)

As I already mentioned, I started with "Savage Grace", so this film didn't shocked me, but touched a lot. I love its "Courage to be yourself" motto.

Right, I think I also started with "Savage Grace", which was long ago, when I was of a rather sensitive age, and the mother-son incest thing put me off instantly and I came back to the movie years later and actually quite enjoyed it.
I totally agree with you on the motto of "The Danish Girl". Not only is the movie beautifully shot, starring talented actors and actresses and telling a true story, but it also presents an inspirational message, just like you said.

Oh, yeah! I had seen them and re-watched them some times.
The plot itself is not genius, and the whole story seems to be made up of cliches for me, but it does not makes it bad. Not a masterpiece, but the way they told the idea to us is pretty good (can be way better at second film, btw). Eddie is really good at the stories about some, how to explain my impressions, broken people. About someone having some kind of inner conflict, problem that makes him suffer deep at his soul and poisons his life. It's pretty nice to see him smiling a lot at the screen finally.

To tell the truth, I've been hooked on this movies since 2016 and have watched them... numerous times. As for the plot, it may be smart to keep in mind that we have only seen 2 out of 5 films and some things that we might not get now will be explained further. I can see that the creators of Fantastic Beasts movies did a very good job depicting the Roaring Twenties both in America and in Europe. (The scene in the first part, where the characters go to a wizarding speakeasy, I love it to the moon and back. The second part had less of such moments, being more gloomy and serious, I'd say, but the costume design in both parts leaves me speechless for sure).
Newt is a brilliant character, in my opinion. Not a fool certainly, and not a simple soul (a cinnamon roll, indeed, as the fandom likes to call him, but also a scientist who has worked with dragons - why do people tend to forget about it?). And the clear family issues we got to see in the second movie, the not-so-easy relationship with his brother, that just made a character deeper and more interesting in my eyes. At this point I care less and less about plot - just show me more Newt, more beasts and more magic, pretty please =D

I found some there. Mostly crossovers and didn't noticed any maxi fic.

Bring a link then, that would be interesting to read. What kind of crossovers?
For now it seems like there are only two of us here, so I sort of hope someone else will join. Were there more people as the thread just started? I only discovered it when it reached the 3rd page.

Re: [Английский] Flooding in English on Kholivorka (with some readings)

Anyway, yesterday was my first time being legit butthurt over Tumblr's new politics. Like, I basically never post erotic content, so out of 2000 posts maybe 20 got flagged by the bot and all of them were reapproved after I've requested reviews. And so, yesterday I posted a gif set that had zero adult content but was from a piece of media that dealt with a child grieving over their pet's death. It got flagged. I, for some reason, was so surprised by this that it didn't even occur to me to appeal right away. I thought, maybe all death-related content is banned now, sort of like Roskomnadzor bans all the suicide stuff.

But nope, turns out it was once again the bot hallucinating dicks and boobs in a random post. I feel really stupid now over worrying for no reason.
